With a talent that is only matched by her resilience, Nancy Silverton is one of the most celebrated chefs in the country. She essentially invented “artisan” bread (a word she admits that she hates) at La Brea Bakery and her influence on how we all eat at every restaurant, every day, started with Campanile. Silverton’s current partnership with Mario Batali and Joe Bastianich illustrates her ability to create business opportunities that continue to grow and scale. She is, with Batali and Bastianich, co-owner of Pizzeria and Osteria Mozza in Los Angeles, Newport Beach and Singapore, as well as Mozza2Go and Chi Spacca in Los Angeles.
Nancy Silverton’s list of awards includes every accolade one could wish for as a chef. Added to the list of FOOD & WINE’s Best New Chefs in 1990, she has won numerous James Beard Foundation Awards and is the only chef to win BOTH Outstanding Pastry Chef of the Year (1990) and Outstanding Chef of the Year (2014), the Beard Awards' most prestigious honors. She has published some of the best cookbooks for bakers hoping to reproduce her delicious products at home, receiving Julia Child and James Beard Foundation Awards for her efforts. She published her 8th cookbook, The Mozza Cookbook, in 2011.
Silverton is involved in the community and is generous with her time and talent. As a member of the Macy’s Culinary Council since 2003, she participates in Meals-on-Wheels programs in Chicago, NY and LA. Silverton is also heavily involved in the Garden School Project of Los Angeles, providing nutritional education in public grade schools.
Nancy Silverton is a mentor, leader and innovator, inspiring generations of home and professional cooks. She is an explorer and is constantly seeking inspiration. In June 2015 Silverton launched Nancy's Fancy. A luxury line of seven flavors of gelato and sorbetto, Nancy's Fancy is sold in supermarkets. “Everything she does she does with passion and perfection, and these ice creams are no different. Let’s put it this way - I literally bribed my 2-year-old son into potty-trained submission with promises of Nancy’s gelato at Mozza - true story!” says Suzanne Goin.
